Shapes with separate outline and fill colors would be an improvement. Yellow in particular is difficult to see when printed. A yellow circle with a black outline would improve readability.
Other potential uses include marking blue notes, diminished or augmented notes, or other characteristics that the designer wants to call special attention to.
